The Wedding
Margrét & Andrés's wedding on Saturday the 29th of June, 2024.
The day begins with a ceremony in Reykjavík Cathedral at 11.00. Reverend Sveinn Valgeirsson leads the bride and groom together and relatives and friends take care of the music.
After the ceremony, you are invited to a party at the Parliament Hotel at Austurvöllur, and it starts with an aperitif on the hotel's second floor. You enter on the right side of the hotel's main entrance, which faces Austurvöllur, but the hotel stands diagonally across from Alþingishús and the old military barracks, just a few meters from the church door.
After the aperitif, we will move to the hotel's main hall, the Independence Hall, where we will be served dinner. There is a public address system, a projector, and a sound engineer who takes care of technical matters.
The party ends in the afternoon, but we pick up the thread at eight o'clock when the bride and groom welcome guests at their home at Miklubraut 48. There will be singing, dancing, toasts and decorations.
It is worth noting that the hall where we start the party (the blue hall) used to belong to the old Women's School (Kvennó), and in its honor all the art on that building floor is by women. Many people will no doubt recognize themselves in Sjálfstæðissalur, where the banquet takes place. Still, it is a reconstruction of the old entertainment and concert venue Nasa, which was closed a few years ago and that building was demolished but rebuilt by new owners.
Attention is drawn to the fact that it often takes a long time to find a parking space at the church, and additional travel time can be expected in search of a parking space. You can also point to Reykjavík City Hall's parking lot on the next street.
